Coach Conan (Co-Owner)

I have spent over twenty years in the military and law enforcement. I played soccer when I was young and coached a bit when I got older. Although, most of my sports activity has focused on carrying heavy things for long distances in the Army, ha ha. I came across CrossFit in the military and loved how it allowed me to get fit and use that fitness for all types of physical challenges. As I’ve gotten older and spend more time behind a desk than jumping out of airplanes CrossFit helps me stay healthy and fit.

My take on CrossFit: This is by far the best way to get fit and STAY fit. I coach this program because I believe in it and I have seen the results it has made in people’s lives!

Favorite WOD: Fight Gone Bad! It is truly that. It is 3 to 5 rounds of pure fight!

Least favorite WOD: Fran! It is short, sweet, and painful.

Time CrossFitting: I started doing CrossFit in the military in 2006 and then carried it to my own garage gym. Later, I began working out at different affiliates. Working out at an affiliate is so much better because of the sense of community.

Workout music of choice: I get into all sorts of music. If you don’t believe me, then just ask to see my iPod. But, if I had to choose one type, it would be some Drop Kick Murphy (as loud as possible and on repeat!).

I have spent almost twenty five years in the military and federal law enforcement. Growing up, I played lots of sports until Gymnastics finally took over. I had the good fortune to represent the U.S. Naval Academy at several NCAA Gymnastics Championships and competed in the Championships of the USA in 1988. I was very strong as a gymnast but couldn’t run a mile to save my life… Of course, the Navy changed that! 20 yrs later, I still retain gymnastics strength, flexibility and coordination. CrossFit has helped me broaden my strength and cardio base while providing variety to keep injuries at bay. It is by far the best program I’ve seen to keep a 40 something strong and fit!

My take on CrossFit: It is the only strength and conditioning program I know of that produces dramatic results regardless of age, experience level or athletic background. All you need is a desire to be fit and a willingness to work hard. This program produces results for Cops and Soldiers, School Teachers and Students, Parents and Grandparents!

Favorite WOD: Murph! It really motivates me!! I have a special place in my heart for the Navy guys at the tip of the spear.

Least favorite WOD: Grace or Isabel! Still haven’t mastered Olympic Lifting, but I will…

Time CrossFitting: I have been training CrossFit exclusively for about 18 months. Conan introduced me to CrossFit and I have been fully on-board ever since. The programming produces dramatic results and the community makes it fun. Can’t beat that!

Workout music of choice: Linkin Park and Green Day, plus ’80s rock…

Coach Lori

Director of Kids & Teens Programs

Being a military spouse has taught me a lot of things: First, to be independent. Second, family FIRST. Third, have an outlet! Growing up in ballet companies and dancing 7 days a week has taught me discipline, and why technique is so important. I moved to Virginia from Stuttgart, Germany. I have spent the last 2 years teaching ballet to ages 3-17. I have also been a permanent substitute teacher in an on-post High school in Germany.  I have always been into fitness, CrossFit has opened doors for me that I never thought possible; as well as given me the confidence to do the things I never thought I could. After getting my Level 1 CrossFit Certification I was asked to train the Soldiers in my husband’s military unit that had failed their physical fitness tests.  It was rewarding to watch them gain strength and confidence. I loved every minute! It was my sacrifice to our Men in Service! Hoooha!

Favorite WOD: Annie, Love those double unders!!

Least Favorite: well, Murph scares the pants off me!!

Time CrossFitting: I have been CrossFitting for about three years. It’s amazing how my body has changed, as well as my mind and confidence! I will never stop!

Music of Choice: Anything with a good beat.

Coach Jon

I used to enjoy sports a lot as a kid and somewhere through life, got away from physical activity and discovered that I had sacrificed my health and functional capacity in favor of pursing my career.

However, I was fortunate enough to be approached by a coworker named Rob who wanted to start running and didn’t want to do it alone. I invested time towards running every day and eventually could run for an hour without struggling. Unfortunately, I began to get bored with running for hours at a time during the week and wanted something new to do.

Martial arts has always intrigued me, so I went to a local MMA gym to learn Jiu Jitsu. While there, I met a coach named Iman who told me that I should really think about getting into physical training through CrossFit. Since I was an avid runner now, I initially took offense thinking she didn’t know what I was capable of doing. In time, I would swallow my pride and go back to the gym to try out a CrossFit session. Boy was I naive! That single session left me flat on my back gasping for breath and sore for days after. As fit as I thought I was, I quickly realized I had a long way to go. Iman helped to make me fitter by increasing my strength and functional capacity.

I joined Impavidus because I was spending too much time on the road commuting to my CrossFit workouts. Soon after joining, I quickly realized that I was hooked. I became part of a really big family and was invited to learn how to train people in the art of fitness. I have learned so much from owners Conan and Jerry and seek to apply that knowledge to helping others become even more fit. There is something that is so rewarding about watching each and everyone in the gym become better athletes and being a part of helping them along that path. Much like my first coach did for me.

I ran track and cross country in high school and continued running for recreation when I went to college. Then in 2003 I ran my first marathon. Up until then I had only competed in road races up to 5 miles. I’ve also dabbled with triathlons–sprint and super sprint distances–and continue to run the occasional marathon. In 2009 I decided to try the CrossFit and CrossFit Endurance approach to training to see how well it could prepare me for a marathon. Needless to say, it worked! I ran significantly less mileage than I ever did using a long slow distance training methodology AND I PR’d by 24 minutes. CrossFit has proven its functional application to all sports and life. Additionally, the community is by far the best aspect of CrossFit. It’s the community that pushes you to your max and wants you to get that PR–sometimes even more than you do.

My take on CrossFit: I CrossFit to live, not live to CrossFit. CrossFit makes life easier and learning the PROPER way to CrossFit makes even CrossFit easier.

Favorite WOD: All of them. Each WOD is different and challenging.

Least favorite WOD: All of them. Each WOD is different and challenging.

Time CrossFitting: November 2008.

Workout music of choice: Anything with a hard hitting, fast beat. I’ll workout to anything though, because halfway through the WOD I’m usually too busy trying to breathd rather than figure out what music is playing.

Coach Brad

I have over 20 yrs experience in the military and government contracting.  I’ve always played some type of sports.  This life of sport has served me well. I was introduced to CrossFit just before I retired from the Military and was truly amazed at how fast you could see gains from the program.  And as I get older, I have shifted the focus on to working the weaknesses to help make me more functional for my life ahead. Although, I still have a bit of a competitive spirit!

My take on CrossFit:  I have seen it make positive changes in many different people, from the most elite Military Forces to the soccer Mom.  CrossFit is for anybody that is looking to improve their health and wellness.

Favorite WOD: Any of the Heros or Girls, but Fran is special; she is just simple, honest and brutal.

Time CrossFitting:  I was introduced to CrossFit in 2008 and kicked it around on the base gym and got good gains.  Once I finally entered a Crossfit Box in 2010, I finally understood the full scope of what Crossfit can be.  I continue to work and make myself a better Athlete and Coach.
